Objective
Appraise the study of the liberal arts in the post-millennium, culminating in the writing of a liberal arts or major-specific critique supported by textual, factual, and theoretical evidence, as appropriate.
Description |
Exhibit 4 is a critique that I wrote for an assignment in ENG 4950, a capstone course, during the 2015 spring/summer term at Madonna University. The purpose of the assignment was to demonstrate my ability to analyze an essay pertaining to the study of the liberal arts in the post-millennium. My critique is of Edward L. Ayers’s article entitled “The Experience of Liberal Education.” It includes an introduction of the article and author, a brief summary, an in-depth analysis, a personal response, conclusion and works cited.

Reflective Analysis |
This exhibit is a critical analysis of a recent article about the importance of integrating experience into the liberal arts education. I determined that the writer wrote clearly, was persuasive and provided pertinent information. I support these ideas by quoting text from the article. Also, I cited from outside sources to support information about the author, and supported my opinions about the piece with real-life examples. I chose this analysis because it demonstrates that I can write analytically and support my ideas.
Moreover, writing this critique helped me to better understand the important role I have as a future teacher to integrate experience into the curriculum. This means that I will provide engaging lessons including providing guest speakers, field trips, videos, small and whole group discussions and more. By helping students make real world connections to the curriculum, I hope to deepen their understanding of complex issues. |
