Objective
To develop the ability to respond thoughtfully and critically to literary texts and to articulate responses through appropriate forms of discourse.
Description |
Exhibit 3 is a critical analysis that I composed as a student in ENG 2950, a critical writing and literary analysis course, during the 2014 fall term at Madonna University. Basically, it is an analysis of an analysis. Specifically, it is a critical analysis of the approach taken by a critic’s analysis of a primary work. This assignment encompasses references and responses to the critic’s analysis, as well as to the primary work. It is also written in the MLA format.

Reflective Analysis |
This exhibit demonstrates my ability to write a critical analysis of a literary work similar to the analysis in Exhibit 4; however, in this analysis I went one step further since I analyzed a critic’s analysis. This encompassed several layers, including summarizing the primary work, “A Jury of Her Peers,” summarizing the critic’s analysis, and responding to the critic’s feminist approach to the primary work.
Overall, writing this analysis helped me become a more critical thinker because I had to determine the critic’s approach by making connections between her analysis and the primary work. Since writing this analysis, I am more critical of the things that I read. By knowing the author’s approach, I am more able to develop my own critical interpretation of a literary work. This skill helps me to utilize various critical lenses as I’m reading articles, and other literary works. |
